Book 1 – The Reunion
- The book opens with Crystal at the gun range, which she’s done every Friday for months. Do you think her fears about Dante and the way she prepared herself were justified?
- When Dante confronted Crystal in the multi-purpose room and she pulled her gun, do you think she was overreacting? Why or why not? If you were Crystal, what would you have done?
- What were some flaws in Crystal’s character that you did not like?
- In what ways would you have liked to see Crystal’s character more developed?
- When Langston Brands received bad publicity because of the murder charges against Crystal, her parents also voted that she temporarily leave her position as CEO. Do you agree with their decision? Why or why not? Were you surprised they voted against her?
- Marcel has been in love with Crystal since grade school. She’s had feelings for him, too, so not only is this a second-chance romance for Crystal, but a second chance for the two of them to get it right. What do you like about second-chance romance tropes?
- Marcel is a playboy turned gentleman-one-woman-only-kind-of-guy. And of course, handsome, and successful, amongst other things. What are some of your favorite traits that make male characters swoon-worthy?
- Before Dante’s murder, he apologized to Crystal for all he’d done to her. Did you find his apology to be sincere? What about his actions made him seem (or not seem) remorseful?
- Could you relate to any of the characters in The Reunion? If so, who? And why?
- How do you feel about Crystal’s decision to keep her family in the dark about the threatening messages? Do you think her sisters should have pushed harder? What would you have done differently if you were Crystal? Or Ava/Layla?
- One thing I enjoy about Layla’s character is her reliance on her intuition, which she often refers to as premonitions/visions or some “insight” into the future. Do you follow your intuition often? Or listen to someone you trust who may have a “bad feeling” about something or someone? Why or why not? Should Crystal have listened to Layla about attending the reunion mixer?
Book 2 – The Wrong Seat
- Ava was on a mission to help her family’s company get back on track. Why do you think this ambition blinded her, possibly putting herself at greater risk? Specifically, when the time came for Crystal to go to Cambodia, Ava insisted on being the person to go, even when Zack suggested she not do so.
- Were you surprised at the person behind the threats on Ava’s life? At what point in the story did you figure out who it was?
- Ava suffers from “middle-child-syndrome,” feeling unseen, and not really certain of her “place” in her family. Were there instances in the story that validated Ava’s feelings?
- Did you find Ava’s character to be more relatable than her sister, Crystal? Of the two, which would you say is your favorite and why?
- One of my favorite scenes in any story is the initial meeting of the hero/heroine. In The Wrong Seat, Ava was instantly attracted to Zack and vice versa, but for their own reasons decided nothing would come of it. What are your thoughts on the build up to their first kiss? Did Zack’s response to Ava asking him about his feelings surprise you?
- Ava and Zack’s first kiss is also one of my favorite scenes in this book. It happened because of the romantic tension and growing emotional bond. Was his response (the kiss) realistic? Do you feel like it was true to his character?
- Zack was emotionally “stuck” because of the self-assigned blame of his wife’s death. What advice would you give to someone who is in the same emotional space as Zack?
- Zack had a constant concern that he was blurring the professional line with Ava? At what point in the story would you say they blurred the lines of their relationship?
- In what ways would you have liked to see Zack and Ava’s story or characters developed?
- Which hero did you like best? Zack or Marcel? Why?
